Gadget: Review of Logitech M185 Wireless Mouse

While waiting for the kids who are battling out at Laser WarZone, I popped down to the IT Hyperstore, eCurve Damansara to kill some time and in the meantime source for an inexpensive wireless mouse to use in the office.

While comparing different brands, I decided to stick to Logitech and chose the Logitech M185 wireless mouse that cost only RM40. It's a simple plug-and-play wireless mouse suitable for my daily work use.

Let's have a look at the specs on the package.
  • All-year power with 12 months of battery life (battery life may vary on battery and usage)
  • Nano receiver that you can plug into the USB port and forget about it.
  • Easy scrolling
  • Smooth, responsive cursor control

Logitech has made opening their plastic enclosure a breeze with two opening tabs at the top corners. You just tear it along the pre-cut lines and voila. No scissors needed, unboxing with ease.

So what do you get in the sealed package.
  • Wireless Mouse
  • Nano receiver
  • 1 pre-installed AA battery
  • User guide

The mouse has a standard button layout for a mouse without any extra buttons mostly used by gamers. The mouse has a nice feel and the buttons works perfectly well. The rubberised scroll wheel is not that smooth but I guess it might just be my unit since the scroll wheel on my colleague's unit feels nice and smooth.

The plug and play nano receiver is very small and once plugged into the USB port, you tend to forget about it since it's unobtrusive. Losing it will render the paired mouse useless.

At the bottom of the mouse you will find the power button, optic sensor and battery compartment. The mouse will go into standby mode if left unattended for few minutes. This helps to conserve battery and improves on battery life.

Open up the battery compartment and there's a slot for you to house the nano receiver for portability without the fear of losing it.

Turn on the mouse and the response is very responsive. There are no delays or dropouts on the wireless 2.4 GHz connection. If you are looking for an inexpensive wireless mouse, Logitech M185 would be a good choice at RM40. It's available in black, red and blue colour.
